The European LIFE FARMITANK project has recently been highlighted by CINEA, the European Commission’s Executive Agency for Climate, Infrastructure and the Environment, in an interview focusing on the project’s results and impact.
LIFE FARMITANK has worked on developing a controlled-environment vertical farming system, designed to produce fresh, locally sourced food in a more efficient and sustainable way, with less reliance on external weather conditions.
Key benefits of the system include:
A significant reduction in water consumption compared to traditional farming.
Production without the use of pesticides or herbicides.
A reduction in emissions and food waste.
An improvement in the product’s shelf life.
An increase in productivity per unit area.
Beyond the technological advances achieved, the project highlights the key role of European programmes such as LIFE in promoting innovative solutions with market potential and the capacity to generate a positive environmental and social impact.
At FARMITANK, we would like to thank the CINEA team, the companies involved and all the consortium partners for their collaboration and commitment throughout the project.
